Accordiana 2
Quite a few of our large audience had never been to an event like this before. Both during and after the show they expressed to me their amazement and delight at the standard of performance given by everyone who played.
The show, hosted with great expertise by Lauder Club M.C. Ronnie Patterson, was kicked off by myself, supported by, on Piano- Keith Dickson and on drums – Andrew Gibb. Once this “old timer” had done his bit it was onto the youngsters, starting off with the amazing combination of Gary Forrest on Accordion and Roddy Matthews on violin.
A huge thank-you must go to Gary and Roddy for stepping in at the last moment to replace Leonard Brown, who it was great to seat the event. However he still has several stitches in his hand after surgery was required to repair the damage of a freak car door accident.
Next up was Craig Paton who, having travelled all the way from Aberdeen, gave us a superb performance. Back on stage with Craig was Andrew Gibb on drums. Our sound engineer, Keith Dickson said of the duo “they sound good together”. Knowing Keith as I do, this is the highest accolade one can possibly get from him!
Rounding off the first half were the junior KODA group – the Keith Dickson Junior Accordion Orchestra. Amongst this 11 piece outfit's repertoire were a couple of Blair Douglas tracks. They also featured a couple of solos. Firstly Emma Dickson rattled through with great eases Rimsky Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblee-Bee and then accompanied Adam Gibb with a great continental number Tic Tac Polka.
After the break for tea/coffee and biscuits Ronnie Patterson drew the raffle whilst the hunt was on for Andrew Gibb. He was eventually found in the dressing room taking a well deserved break after his first half efforts and enjoying a Chinese takeaway with Craig. Once he had joined the rest of KODA on stage it was on with the 2nd half.
As with last year they provided great entertainment but with a slightly changed line up. Hannah Dickson replacing Tom Gold on Violin and Amie Kirkpatrick taking over the singing duties from Shelley Clark. It was great to see ex KODA member Jim Gold, replaced on keyboards now by Hannah Jamieson and who had done such a good guest spot at Lauder the previous Sunday, among the audience.
As this was Andrew Gibb (accordion) and Alexander Scougall (bagpipes) last gig with KODA they both gave us solos before being presented with framed copies of the C.D. they recorded on. All too soon it was quarter to ten and all the performers assembled on, and in front of the stage for the finale. Such was the popularity of this event that plans are already being made for next year.
Finally - A big thank-you to everybody who stacked chairs at the end of the evening. However this caused great consternation to the caretaker who, having unlocked the Gents changing room ( one wonders if we will ever get the true story from Emma as to how it got locked in the first place) pointed out that the chairs should have been left as Fiddlers Bid were appearing on Monday night.

Club Chairman Paul Capaldi travelled to The Isle of Skye to play 2nd box with The Gary Forest ceilidh along with club regular, drummer Tam Rankin.
The weather was good so we took a few photos and then enjoyed a great reception from the Island's Accordion and Fiddle Club. It was Gary's first appearence as Guest artist for almost 7 years and he was kicking off in style the clubs new season.
